Psilocybe Cubensis 100% Mycelium Grow Kit Instructions
- Open the package carefully, don’t use a knife, you could ruin the plastic bag. Do not touch the (white) air-filter on the plastic bag to avoid contamination.
- Take the lid off the container and place the grow kit inside the plastic bag with the open end of the bag facing up. Close the plastic bag by folding the top 3 cm down, and use the paper clip to keep it closed. The bag has a built-in air filter, so you do not have to worry about air circulation.
- Place the kit and plastic bag in an area with enough daylight but away from direct sunlight (not in total darkness).
- The optimal temperature is between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius (64.4 and 82.4 degrees Fahrenheit). Although mushrooms will grow at almost any temperature above 15 °C, 23 °C is the ideal temperature for an optimal harvest. Lower or higher temperatures may slightly delay the growth process. Temperatures above 35°C are harmful. Special mushroom heat mats are available for purchase if you don’t live in (sub-)tropical areas. If you’re using a heat mat, switch it on for the first two days then switch it off.
- Rinse the lid under running water, dry and store it properly. You will need the lid again later.
- After one day, open the bag and spray the inside of the bag using a spray bottle filled with clean water. Do not spray directly onto the kit! Repeat this step every other day. Close the bag after each spraying.
- Stop spraying as soon as the first mushrooms become visible. Open the bag and leave it open from now on so the moisture can evaporate. Too much moisture is not good! If you’re using a heat mat switch it on once the mushrooms are visible. It will take approx. 1 to 2 weeks until the mushrooms are fully developed.
- Theoretically you can harvest the first flush just before the largest ones open their caps by twisting and pulling the stem, not by ripping or cutting. Since it may be illegal to do so in your country, we advise against this. Psilocybin mushrooms turn bluish or bluish green when they’re bruised. This is a normal bluing reaction to growing conditions or being handled.
- These grow kits produce several flushes. After the first harvest, remove the grow kit from the plastic bag. Fill the kit with clean, cold tap water. This process is known as cold shock. It breathes new life into the mycelium and ensures that enough moisture is present for the mushrooms to grow.
- Place the lid of the grow kit back onto the kit. Let the kit soak for 12 hours. Lift a corner of the lid and drain the excess water. From here you can follow the instructions starting from step 3. This process can be repeated several times.
- Don’t give up too easily; patience is key! Mushrooms may still pop up after more than a month. As soon as the mycelium starts turning green or purplish (a sign of infection) throw the grow kit away.
- ENJOY!
Magic Truffles
The best magical truffles, also known as Sclerotia, may be found here. Our truffles have comparable hallucinogenic properties as magic mushrooms. Psilocybin and psilocin, two naturally occurring chemicals with mind-altering properties, are found in both types of psychedelic fungus. Order online and get top-quality truffles delivered to your house in a vacuum-sealed container.
Magic mushroom Grow Kit
A mushroom grow kit is a simpler, more convenient, quicker, and less expensive method to enjoy cultivating your own magic mushrooms at home. We have you covered whether you are a rookie grower or a seasoned specialist. You may choose easy-to-use magic mushroom grow kits for beginners or a more customisable grow kit for more fun growth.
Mushroom Spores & Syringes
Are you ready to cultivate your first or next batch of mushrooms? We have a variety of mushroom strains available in the form of a spore syringe or spore print. We follow stringent guidelines to ensure that your spore syringe or spore print is 100% live. They are moistened in sterile water to facilitate germination and prevent disease attack.
What is a Mushroom Grow Kit?
Magic Mushroom grow kits provide the necessary pieces of kit to grow mushrooms yourself. These kits are simple — usually consisting of a small plastic tub with sterilized or pre-colonized substrates (depending on local laws). There are two main types of mushroom grow kits to be aware of:
1. Mushroom Growing Supply Bundles
These kits include everything you need to start cultivating mushrooms, such as a fruiting chamber, substrates and growing mediums (typically grain), and extras like thermometers, heat mats, spawn jars, and cleaning tools.
In most cases, you’ll need to find your own mushroom spores for these kits, as they aren’t provided. The key benefit of these kits is that they may be reused for fresh generations of mushrooms. You’ll just need to replenish the substrates and cleaning materials as needed.
2. Pre-Colonized Mycelium Grow Kits
These packages include mushroom mycelium that has been pre-colonized. You can skip the inoculation stage and proceed directly to the fruiting stage (when mushrooms develop). These are the simplest, cheapest, and quickest kits. The disadvantage is that they are single-use only, so you’ll need to purchase another kit after it’s completed.
Pre-colonized magic mushroom grow kits are available in countries such as Canada and the Netherlands. Only pre-colonized kits containing gourmet or medicinal mushrooms like reishi or lion’s mane will be available in the United States.

What to Look For in A Mushroom Grow Kit
There are many top-notch mushroom grow kits available online that haven’t been mentioned above. When vetting whether a mushroom grow kit is worth the money or not, here are a few questions you should be asking:
- Does the kit include spores or live mycelium?
- Does the kit include reusable components, or is it a one-time-use?
- What kind of mushrooms can I grow with the kit?
- How much space does the kit occupy?
- Will I need to buy additional supplies to maintain temperature & light requirements?
If you’re just beginning started, it’s a good idea to start with something easy. Start here first if you can obtain live mycelium kits.
Once you’ve mastered the procedure, it’s simple to expand your system to have more capacity or automate specific activities, such as maintaining humidity levels.
When it comes to mushrooms, little is more. I’ve seen far greater output from a basic plastic container with holes punched in it (dubbed a “shotgun fruiting chamber”) than from pricey, mechanized installations.
Are Magic Mushroom Grow Kits Legal?
All nations allow supply bundle grow kits (which contain substrates and containers but no spores or mycelium). You may use these kits to legally produce a broad variety of mushrooms.
However, colonization fruiting kits containing psychotropic mushrooms are nearly everywhere banned. The mycelium of psilocybin-containing fungus is totally lawful in Holland (although the mushrooms themselves are illegal).
Psilocybin, the active element in magic mushrooms, is illegal in the majority of nations. Magic mushrooms are unlawful to cultivate or possess because they are considered a “container” for psilocybin.
Only the state of Oregon, as well as a few municipalities, have moved to decriminalize magic mushrooms in the United States. This includes Denver, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Detroit, Oakland, Santa Cruz, Seattle, Port Townsend, Northampton, Eastampton, Somerville, and a rising number of additional US cities.
Are Magic Mushroom Spores Legal?
Magic mushroom spores do not contain psilocybin and are hence legal in most parts of the globe today, including the United States. This is what makes mushroom growing kits a realistic option.
Unfortunately, as the spores develop into mycelium, it becomes prohibited once more. This is why mushroom grow kits do not include spores and must be ordered separately from a different vendor.

Where to Buy Magic Mushroom Spores
Magic mushroom spores must be ordered individually unless you purchase a pre-colonized mushroom grow kit.
Gourmet mushrooms such as oyster mushrooms, lion’s mane, porcini, reishi, and shiitake may be purchased pre-colonized online, while magic mushrooms are only accessible in specific countries (such as Canada).
Because they do not contain active psilocybin, magic mushroom spores are legal in the majority of US states. Look into merchants like Sporeslab or Ralphsters. If you’re not sure which strains to start with, see our guide to magic mushroom strains.
1. Disinfectant Wipes/Spray
Maintaining a sterile working environment is essential for effectively cultivating mushrooms from spores. This cannot be emphasized enough. Contaminants can readily enter and contaminate your sterilized substrate.
Any cleaning wipes containing alcohol will do. Even rubbing alcohol and paper towels will suffice. Personally, I prefer Lysol disinfectant wipes since they are inexpensive, ready to use straight out of the container, and include a number of cleaning chemicals that destroy a wide range of bacteria.
Contamination is one of the most common problems that both novice and experienced producers face. Mold or bacterial spores can easily sneak their way into your substrate jars during the inoculation stage and destroy your mushrooms before they have a chance to take hold.
Before you innoculate your substrate jars, wipe down any surfaces you’re working on, all the items you brought into the room, and your gloved hands.
2. Nitrile Gloves
One of the biggest sources of pollution is your own body. Because human skin is home to a plethora of germs, it’s critical to cover as much of your skin as possible when working with mushrooms. Disposable gloves will also allow you to disinfect your hands without harming your skin with alcohol or Lysol cleaning wipes.
3. Surgical Masks
Our tongue, like our skin, is a source of infection for our mushrooms. To keep your germs to yourself, use a sterile mask while working. Most people already have masks, which are easily accessible at medicine shops and online retailers such as Amazon and Walmart.

4. Pressure Cooker (Optional)
A pressure cooker or Instant Pot will most likely be the most expensive component of your mushroom growing equipment, but it is a crucial tool for the do-it-yourself grower. This equipment will let you to make your own sterilized substrate jars, which will save you money over time.
You may also buy pre-sterilized grain jars or spawn sacks, which avoid the need for a pressure cooker. However, they range in price from $20 to $40 per serving, compared to $5 to $10 when prepared at home using a pressure cooker.
5. Wide-Mouth Mason Jars
Glass mason jars are inexpensive, reusable, and make an excellent container for mycelium. Jars of any size can be used, although 500 mL (1 pint) jars are an excellent place to start. They’re large enough to yield pretty significant flushes of mushrooms while remaining tiny enough to hedge your grow in case a few jars get infected and must be destroyed.
When using brown rice flour and vermiculite as a substrate, use only wide-mouth jars; otherwise, you’ll have to destroy the cakes to get them out of the jar. It’s also a good idea to stock up on lid inserts and synthetic filter discs.

6. Substrate Options
When it comes to purchasing substrate (the food source for your mushrooms), you have a few alternatives. For your first grow, I recommend either pre-sterilized substrate or brown rice flour and vermiculite (BRF Tek) if you want to produce your own substrates (you’ll need a pressure cooker).
Rye grain or other grains are also viable options, but are normally preferred by more experienced mushroom producers.
Brown Rice Flour & Vermiculite
A mixture of brown rice flour, vermiculite, and water is the simplest growth medium to get started with. Brown rice flour acts as the food supply, while vermiculite provides structure and permits airflow throughout the medium.
There are two parts brown rice flour, two parts vermiculite, and one part water. Brown rice flour may be found at almost any grocery shop or on Amazon. One 24 ounce bag is adequate for numerous grow cycles.
Vermiculite may be purchased at any gardening store or online through Amazon or other marketplaces. Choose coarse vermiculite over fine-ground vermiculite. You’ll need roughly 1 L of vermiculite for 5 half-pint jars. Purchasing a larger bag of vermiculite is more cost-effective. A single 9L bag has enough vermiculite to fill 25-30 500 mL mason jars.
Pre-Sterilized Substrates
If you don’t want to worry with preparing and sterilizing substrates, or if you don’t have the money for a pressure cooker just yet, you may buy ready-to-use substrate jars or bags from firms like Amazon or Magic Mushrooms Shop.
Rye Grain
Rye grain is inexpensive and has benefits over brown rice flour and vermiculite, such as the ability to reproduce your spawn by putting part of it into a new jar of sterilized rye grain to keep the stock running without having to purchase new spores.
The disadvantage of this medium is that it is more susceptible to bacterial contamination. Bacterial endospores can occasionally survive sterilization. It’s also possible to over-sterilize the rye, turning it to mush.
Wild Bird Seed
Similar to rye grain, wild bird seed is a great substrate. It is made up of numerous seeds that the mycelium may feed on.
Look for seeds with the fewest black sunflower seeds. Most wild bird seed (WBS) manufacturers recommend removing them before using. Consider brands like Wagners and Pennington.

7. Plastic Storage Tub
Fruiting is the ultimate step of mushroom production. This is when the colonized mycelium starts producing mushrooms.
Fruiting does not require any complicated equipment to be effective; all you need is a basic plastic tub, some perlite, and a spray bottle. The purpose of this step is to maintain high humidity levels while allowing light and air to enter the container. Professional growth containers, like as this one from Sporelab, are also available. Seed propagators also perform effectively, particularly ones with small ventilation openings at the top to aid airflow.
8. Perlite
Perlite is a volcanic rock that is permeable. The perlite’s surface pores allow it to store a high amount of water. This property makes it effective for boosting soil water retention.
Many grow kits include a bag of perlite to fill the bottom of your fruiting chamber with to assist maintain high humidity levels throughout the day.
The amount of perlite required is determined on the size of the fruiting chamber. Aim for about 1/2-1 inch of perlite in the bottom of the tub, then fill it with water using a spray bottle. The idea is to get the perlite moist but not have any standing water at the bottom of the tray. Perlite is available on Amazon and in most local gardening stores.

9. Spray Bottle
As the mushrooms form, use a spray bottle to keep the mushroom substrate damp (but not wet). It doesn’t matter whatever spray bottle you choose as long as it can generate a thin mist of water. You don’t want any standing water that might support the growth of germs or mold.
I propose purchasing a set of two sprayers, one for water and one for rubbing alcohol, to be used during the inoculation stage. Before utilizing any bottles, make sure they are correctly labeled!
10. Hygrometer & Thermometer
Cheap hygrometer/thermometer combination meters may be found on Amazon or at local hardware or gardening stores.
These instruments will assist you in determining whether your fruiting chamber is too dry. If your mycelium becomes dry, it will produce much reduced yields and may possibly die.
Maintain a humidity level of at least 75% and a temperature of at least 20oC (68oF). If they become too heated, the mycelium may begin to decay. If the temperature is too low, the mushrooms will just grow more slowly.

Magic Mushroom Grow Kit FAQs
If you have any further questions about assembling or ordering mushroom grow kits, feel free to reach out to service@magicmushroomsgrowkitusa.com. We use your questions to enrich this page so everyone can benefit.
1. What Strain of Mushrooms Should I Start With?
There are hundreds of Psilocybe cubensis strains to pick from. For the most part, they will all grow healthily. Having said that, some strains have shown to be more resistant to contamination and, as a result, are better selections for beginner growers.Golden Teacher, Penis Envy, Koh Samui, Orissa India, Cambodian, and Z-strain are some of the best strains for beginners to try.
2. What Kind of Mushrooms Are Easiest To Grow At Home?
Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus spp.) are the simplest to cultivate at home. They grow exceedingly rapidly, can eat almost anything, and generate an abundance of mushrooms.
Psilocybe cubensis (magic mushrooms) are also surprisingly simple to grow in the house.Other species, such as lion’s mane and reishi, may also be easily cultivated, but they are more picky about the type of substrate utilized.
3. Should I Grow Magic Mushrooms or Truffles?
Truffles are somewhat easier to produce, but they take longer (up to three months) to mature and aren’t as effective as the same weight of magic mushrooms. When feasible, most people choose to grow mushrooms. Some countries, such as Holland, only allow mycelium growing, making truffles lawful but mushrooms banned.
Truffles are made up of sclerotia (hardened mycelium storage structures). They are produced in a container with colonized mycelium of select magical mushroom species (no fruiting stage). Only a few kinds of magic mushrooms, such as Psilocybe tampanensis and Psilocybe mexicana, may produce sclerotia.
4. What’s The Best Mushroom Substrate For Beginners?
BRF tec (brown rice flour and vermiculite) is the ideal substrate for novices in general. This substrate is simple to prepare at home, resistant to many types of bacteria present in raw grains, and yields a large number of mushrooms. This substrate combination also eliminates the requirement for casing.
If you can obtain pre-sterilized kits, rye grain is another wonderful substrate for beginners. The tricky aspect is preparing rye grain since it’s possible to overcook or undercook your rye grains during the sterilizing procedure.
